I think the distinction to make is that joy can come from shopping, but it’s fleeting and more about acquisition and “accomplishment” than need. We use it as a coping mechanism too often. There’s something to be said for treating oneself or serendipitously finding something beautiful and elegant, but that’s not necessary every weekend. It ends up being a lot more quantity and not enough quality.
